Who makes Loop

Loop Scanner ("Loop") is developed in Japan by Loopwise Lab, the trade name of an individual developer ("we"). This policy explains how Loop handles your information.

You can find help in Settings > Help, and you can contact us at [email protected]. The developer's own full name, postal address and phone number are given without delay on request to that address.

What Loop collects

Nothing. Loop has no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads and no tracking. The app has no internet access, so it cannot send anything to us or to anyone else, and no third party receives any data from Loop.

If you choose to email us, we receive what you send. See "Emails you send us" below.

Your scans

Your scans, their pages and any text read from them are stored in Loop's private storage on this phone. We cannot see them.

When you delete a scan, it moves to Recently deleted for 30 days, then it is removed from your phone. If you use backup, Loop stops listing a deleted scan in the backup after up to 30 more days, and frees the space it used over later backups. A backup file you saved separately keeps what was in it until you delete it.

Camera and photos

Loop uses the camera only while you are scanning. It reads photos only when you choose to import them, and saves to your photo library only when you choose to save there. Finding the edges of a document runs on your phone.

Text recognition

Loop reads the text in your scans on your phone, using Apple Vision on iPhone and Google ML Kit on Android. Both work offline.

Google ML Kit has built-in usage statistics. They cannot leave your phone, because Loop has no internet access.

App lock and passwords

App lock uses Face ID, fingerprint or your device passcode through your phone. Loop never sees your face or fingerprint data.

A password you put on an exported PDF protects that file and is not sent anywhere. If you protect backups with a password, Loop keeps a key made from it in your phone's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore) so it can make new backups. The password never leaves your phone.

Backup

Loop backs up only to a folder you choose. If that folder belongs to a cloud service such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox, that service's app uploads it, under that service's own privacy policy. Loop itself uploads nothing.

Your phone's own device backup is separate from Loop. If you have Android Auto Backup or iCloud Backup turned on, your phone may include Loop's data in it. You can turn these off in your phone's settings.

Sharing

Apart from backup (above), a scan leaves Loop only when you share, save or print it, through your phone's own share sheet or save options. Where it goes is up to you.

Purchases

If you buy Loop Scanner Pro, you buy it from the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google takes the payment under its own privacy policy. We never receive your name, payment details or store account.

Loop asks the store on your phone only whether Pro is active, and keeps that answer on your phone.

Children

Loop is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Emails you send us

If you write to support, we receive your email address, your message and the device details you choose to keep in it (app version, system version, phone model and app language), and the diagnostics log if you send it.

We use them only to answer you and to fix the problem you report. We never share or sell them. We delete them 12 months after the conversation ends. Ask us at [email protected] to delete them sooner. Your email travels through your email provider and ours, under those providers' own policies.

Our support address is a Gmail account, so Google stores these emails on its servers, which may be outside Japan, including in the United States. We keep the account secure and use it only for Loop support.

Diagnostics log

Loop keeps a short diagnostics log in a file on your phone: times, app and system version, app language, app events and error messages, with file paths and web addresses removed. It never contains your scans, their text or document names. It holds about 1 MB at most and drops the oldest records first.

Loop never sends the log. Email diagnostics log in Settings > Help opens an email to us in your mail app with a copy attached, and you choose whether to send it. If it reaches us, we treat it like your email. Deleting Loop deletes the log.

Pro messages

Loop keeps a small record on this phone of which Pro features you tried, how often you opened the Pro screen, how many of your scans contain text and how often Pro messages were shown. It uses this only to choose the message at the top of Settings. Loop never sends it anywhere.

Your rights

You can ask us at [email protected] to tell you what we hold about you, to give you a copy, to correct it, to delete it or to stop using it. We answer without delay, and within one month.

In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, we handle your emails because we have a legitimate interest in answering them.

If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you can file a complaint with the data protection authority where you live. In Japan, this is the Personal Information Protection Commission.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version ships inside an app update with a new date at the top. We will not use your information in a new way without telling you first.
